About

I received my doctorate in History from the University of Western Australia in 2015, was a research associate at the University of York from 2015-17, and now live in Ireland. My first academic book is Water in Medieval Intellectual Culture: Case-Studies from Twelfth-Century Monasticism (Brepols, 2018). I have also edited a volume entitled The Passenger: Medieval Texts and Transits (punctum books, 2017), and co-edited themed volumes of the Open Library of the Humanities on New Approaches to Medieval Water Studies and Medieval Minds and Matter.

I am currently Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of English and Digital Humanities at University College Cork. My previous role was on the 2019-23 Ports, Past and Present project, also at UCC. My 2018-20 Irish Research Council-Funded project was entitled ‘Deep Mapping the Spiritual Waterscapes of Ireland’s Lakes: The Case of Lough Derg, Donegal‘. The research is under ongoing development as Digital Derg: A Deep Map. In 2017-18 I was a visiting research fellow at the Trinity College Dublin Long Room Hub.

In 2018 I was the marketing officer for the Open Library of Humanities (OLH), and continue to be a strong advocate and supporter. The OLH is a charitable organisation dedicated to publishing open access scholarship with no author-facing article processing charges (APCs), and funded by an international consortium of libraries. When at Trinity, I was a member of the Trinity College Dublin Open Scholarship task force as well as the TCD Library’s Unboxing Open Scholarship initiative.

In addition I have over six years of editing experience in academic and commercial publishing. Most recently, this has included freelance work as a house editor and advanced editor (online testing) for Sweet and Maxwell, Thomson Reuters UK.
